Meet the Founders

In 2013, Emily and I found ourselves working in rural Ghana by different paths. Emily was studying development economics at Harvard, and I had just graduated from MIT when we had first met each other in Ghana.

It was here that we were introduced to the moringa tree. NGO’s encouraged farmers to cultivate moringa for the nutritional benefits. Gram for gram, the leaves contain more iron than spinach, more protein than yogurt, and more calcium than milk. But farmers had no way to earn a living cultivating moringa and no access to the market. So, we took the unused part of the tree – the seeds – back to our labs at MIT and found a way to cold-press them into a sustainable beauty oil that outperforms argan, jojoba and shea.

Ever since, True Moringa has been adding value and jobs on the ground and producing high-quality, nutritious, pure moringa products.

Care for our Planet

Today, we work with over 5000 small farming families in Ghana, and we have planted over two million moringa trees to combat deforestation and malnutrition locally.

Local Cultivation

From our farms, the seeds are transported to our processing center in Accra, Ghana. We create 90 non-farm jobs along our supply chain. Once the seeds arrive, they are carefully sorted, shelled, and cold-pressed, and filtered in a heat controlled environment.

Breaking Cycles of Poverty

True Moringa provides tools, financing, and training that farmers need to grow moringa well. We give farmers a market for 100% of all of their moringa produce, providing their families income and food security during the dry season. The typical farmer increases their income 4-10x by partnering with True Moringa.
